Hint mode keeps answers hidden — each word shows only its first two letters and dots for the rest. Give me a hint uncovers one full word at a time (spangrams first) and highlights its path on the board, so you can nudge yourself forward without spoiling the whole puzzle. Turn hint mode off to reveal every answer.

    About this NYT Strands Solver

The New York Times Strands puzzle asks you to find hidden words inside a 6×8 grid of letters. Words can snake in any direction — up, down, left, right, and diagonally — and every puzzle contains one special theme word called the spangram. Our solver uses a depth-first search (DFS) algorithm running in a background worker to scan every possible path and match it against a built-in English dictionary, so you get the answer list in milliseconds without sending your letters to a server.

How do I use the solver?

Today's 48 Strands letters load into the grid automatically — you can edit any tile if needed. Press Show today's words to see every valid word. Toggle Hint mode on to hide answers until you ask for a hint.

    What is a spangram?

A spangram is the puzzle's hidden theme word that stretches from one side of the board to the other. Our tool tags spangrams automatically so you can spot them instantly, or filter the results to show only spangrams.

    Is it free and private?

Yes. The solver runs entirely in your browser. Your grid letters never leave your device, and you can use it offline once the page has loaded.

Can I get just a hint, not the answer?

Absolutely. Keep Hint mode enabled and click Give me a hint to reveal the first two letters of a word. Click again to uncover more letters and keep the challenge alive.
